Tomorrow my family leaves for Fort Benning, GA in order to attend Jonathan’s Turning Blue and Graduation ceremonies.

I’m so proud of him but a little scared, too. He’s told me that he’s heading for Germany until January, then he’s scheduled for six months in Iraq followed by six months in Afghanistan. It definitely makes for some mixed feelings, though.

On the one hand I’m a strong supported of the US Armed Services. On the other hand I’m not convinced we are fighting a war we should be fighting. And I have misgivings about whether our military servicemen and women are receiving the care, supplies and support they should.

But I’m an Army Mom now. I’ll post more as we’re at the ceremonies and try to get some pictures in too.

I’m starting this blog as a way for me to both make sure family and friends get updates as well as to give myself a place to talk about my own feelings and worries.

My 21 year old son, Jonathan, has joined the United States Army as an Infantry Soldier. He’s always been interested in the Armed Forces and was in the US Marine Corps Jr. ROTC in high school. After high school, he seemed to derail a bit and spent some time working retail and trying to decide what he wanted to do.

Eventually he took the step and went through the induction and testing to join the Army and is about to graduate from One Station Unit Training. In fact, he’ll graduate in three days at Ft. Benning, GA.

I’m really proud of him. It takes a huge amount of determination and gumption to make it through and come out on the other end.

This is my space to show my support and pride and my own journey as I become an Army Mom. Because I think I must, I’ll point out that this is not a place to flame or protest the decisions of the United States government or the military. If comments are made that cross that line, I will delete them without warning.
